Minimising OPEX for a large Intermodal supply chain solution

Moorebank Intermodal site Building Management System (BMS)

Client

Qube

Location

Moorebank, NSW

About The Project

In 2018 Qube began construction of the Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP). The 243 hectare site is located at the end of the Southern Sydney Freight Line, linked to the Port Botany shipping terminal. When completed, it will handle 1.05 million container movements of import and export freight per year. The site also houses several warehouses, covering a total area of 850,000 sq. The site’s ultimate aim is to provide a complete supply chain solution to major companies in and around the greater Sydney area.

CNF’s task was to provide the building occupiers and the site manager with real-time data and control of the utilities to optimise usage and to lower operating costs. As part of this, CNF was engaged to develop automation solutions for multi-vendor supplied equipment and services to monitor and control their equipment via the site-wide SCADA and advanced reporting systems.
These systems include:

  • 2.5MW rooftop solar system;
  • Electrical consumption and management;
  • Staggered sewage pump-out;
  • Water consumption and fire ring main monitoring.

CNF was able to revamp the newly deployed SCADA system to provide the ability to monitor real-time data systems from the various standalone ancillary systems, to offer both operators and managers easy access to data. This included critical real-time weather information and data on their warehouse utilities.

CNF’s experience in delivering clear, user-friendly SCADA systems was critical to the successful delivery of these systems.

Major Achievements

  • CNF worked with multiple equipment vendors, together with Qube’s internal project team, to successfully deliver creative, workable solutions.
  • CNF developed and implemented standardised electrical and automation solutions that were rolled out across the site to save costs.

Project Innovations

  • CNF created standardised control features that were user adjustable, resulting in very high rates of end-user satisfaction.
  • CNF also developed modular software to reduce the time needed to add further services and monitoring capability to the scheme.
