Great Southern Oceans exhibit upgrade stages 1 & 2

Location

About The Project

The expansive Great Southern Oceans exhibit at Sydney’s iconic Taronga Zoo is one of the most popular year round attractions. Many species of fur seals, sea lions, penguins and pelicans live in the unique environment that emulates their natural habitats and offers visitors up close and personal encounters with the animals.

With so many beautiful sea creatures living in the man-made habitat, maintaining a healthy water quality is critical. The Taronga Conservation Society engaged CNF as D&C contractor to upgrade the exhibit’s water and filtration systems to improve the water quality. The upgrade provides a healthy environment for the animals to live in and thrive. The challenge was to undertake the work without impacting on the animals, the zoo team’s work and zoo visitors and to ensure the exhibit stayed open every day of the year.

With its mechanical, electrical and automation expertise, CNF designed and built a new fully automated water treatment and filtration system.
